FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We hope you find the answer to your question here. Feel free to email customer services if you have anymore questions.
What do I use to refill my lighter?
All Trueutility lighters need to be refilled with Butane gas. This comes in cans with various nozzles and is available from any good newsagent, tobacconist, or supermarket..See Lighter Instructions for more info.
How do I bleed the air from my lighter?
If your lighter fails to ignite, check to see if there is a spark when the lighter mechanism is operated. Make sure that the lighter contains fuel. Make sure all trapped air is released by bleeding. If there is an ignition spark and the lighter does contain fuel, try the following steps. Adjust the flame setting. Depending on the lighter model, this is either done by hand, using the wheel control at the base of the lighter, or using a small screwdriver to turn the setting control at the base. Begin by turning the flame setting up a little at a time, until the lighter ignites every time. Note that ignition failure can be caused by flame settings that are too high as well as too low. See Lighter Instructions for more info.
How do I bleed the air from my lighter?
If the lighter fails to ignite after completing all the usual checks and it is certain that there is an ignition spark and that the lighter contains plenty of fuel, it may require bleeding to remove trapped air from the fuel tank. To bleed the lighter, hold it upside down and press the refill valve using a ballpoint pen or small screwdriver. Continue pressing until hissing stops. Press again several times until hissing stops completely. Then refill the lighter. Shake the gas canister first. Use at least two five second bursts and shake the gas canister each time. Repeat until the lighter is full. Escaping gas indicates that the lighter is full.See Lighter Instructions for more info.

The TrueLite LED torches - Increased brightness and decreased size??
Key Features:
1. True Utility have designed four stunning new LED torches that offer the perfect companions to light your way whatever you are doing and whatever the weather. Water resistant rubber 'O' rings come as standard.
2. By using a specially designed lens that sits directly on top of the LED bulb the need for a reflector is gone.
3. The TrueLite LED torches are smaller and brighter than previous ranges.
It's hard to believe that making something smaller enables it to be better and brighter, but that's exactly how the TrueLite LED torches work. An innovative lens has been developed to sit directly on top of the LED light source. The standard reflector has been removed which would usually add considerable length to any torch. In turn this has substantially decreased the length of the flashlight whilst managing to increase its incredible brightness.
Designed to last, the TrueLite LED torches are made from aircraft grade anodised aluminium, with a non slip body to give better grip in damp conditions. Designed and built for all outdoor situations, such as festivals and camping trips. The LED torches include water resistant rubberised 'O' rings to protect all parts of the torch from being damaged by moisture.
The TrueLite LED torches were designed with both style and function in mind. A new high performance LED beam offers the brightest light encased in a stylish and durable torch. Designed for professional and personal use you'll be relying on this flashlight for years to come.
The LED torches Tu100 - Tu102 offer two light output options, full power and 30% power. The lower output is an excellent option if you want to make the batteries go much further, also very useful if you don't want to dazzle the other people sleeping in your tent when you've lost your keys!
With four sizes to choose from you can pick the LED torch that fits your needs. From the Maxi 3w that boosts an amazing 120+ lumens down to the Micro which fits neatly to your keychain offering light wherever you are. The Maxi, Midi and Mini LED torches all come with tough belt clips and fit neatly in the palm of your hand. The smallest torch, the Micro comes with a key-ring attachment for clipping to your rucksack or key-chain.
The TrueLite® LED torches were launched summer 2011 in time for camping, festivals and coming winter months.
How bright are True Utility's LED torches?
The brightness of our LED torches is indicated in the form of a 'Lumen' rating, this reveals the maximum amount of light that will be emitted every time the torch is switched on. One lumen is the equivalent to the brightness of one flame of one candle. The torch's lumen output will also define the length of time that the torch batteries will last you. Before buying one it is advisable to have a think about the intended use for the torch, this will give you a clearer idea of what lumen rating torch is actually required for the job.
The other rating you will come across is the 'Watts'. This figure isn't actually as important as the lumens because LED torches do not really consume that much power anyway. Our higher specification Truelite LED torches includes two brightness settings, full output and a lower 30% output. This gives the user more control over the device for different situations. For example, the Tu100 Truelite can be set to two different lumen outputs; each setting varies the duration with which the torch can remain continuously shining: 1) 120 lumens = 240 minutes, 2) 40 lumens = 12 hours!
LED torches emit a characteristic pure white light, more akin to natural sun light, this is very different from the old style flashlights where the light colour is more yellowish. Furthermore, when the batteries start to lose power, LED torches continue to project the white light, unlike the traditional torches which will turn progressively dimmer and more yellowy-orange in colour.
Many police officers are using LED torches as strategic weapons. The extreme brightness that the new generation LED torches are capable of outputting can create temporary blindness. For police officers, this can be a much safer alternative to other kinds of brutal control techniques. Temporary blindness allows the officers to distract the criminal long enough that they can then make their approach and apprehend them before anyone comes to any unnecessary harm. These super bright LED torches used by the police typically have a brightness output of ninety lumens and use 3 watts or more.
Since the innovation of placing a tiny mirror in the bulb, the light from LED torches now have the capabilities to achieve the same, if not greater, distances (throw) as the old style incandescent torches. Rather than producing a ring of light like the old flashlights, the light from LED torches are brighter, more focused, and directional. With the Truelite range the brightness has been further increased with an additional, specially designed lens that has been placed in front of the LED as well. The light can be seen up to a mile away!
